Jesus is our guide, let us follow Him
Curriculum Intent at St. Margaret Clitherow School
We recognise that our children come from diverse backgrounds. We understand the community they live in and the challenges they face as they grow in an ever changing world. The last two years have also created a legacy for all children. This understanding is our starting point.
Our curriculum, underpinned by our Catholic ethos and school values, has been reviewed for 2022. Our ambition is to ensure that our children are exposed to high quality learning in all subject areas; gaining, not only key skills and knowledge, but also enjoying rich, varied and challenging opportunities and experiences in which to apply and deepen their learning.
Our curriculum is planned and sequenced to ensure core skills are taught effectively - Doing less, better. Teaching staff are empowered to consider how best to secure key knowledge, content and skills and to plan the learning sequence in a responsive way. This enables our pupils to secure high quality learning outcomes and excellent rates of progress.
We provide a vibrant curriculum that is broad, balanced and appropriate for all our pupils.
The school follows the National Curriculum as revised in 2014. Please refer to class pages to see an overview of the curriculum for each year group. As a School we teach reading using Synthetic phonics. We use the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme. In the EYFS and KS1 we make use of Collins Big Cat as our main reading scheme. Please contact the Headteacher for further details of the curriculum.
